Cochin, Kumarakom, Alleppey houseboat, Munnar Tour
The port city of Cochin (Kochi), rightly known as the Queen of Arabia reflects the essense of Kerala perfectly. With a rich past and a bustling present, it has been the business hub of the region since the very early days. Cochin consists of mainland Ernakulam, the islands of Willington, Bolgatty and Gundu in the harbour, Fort Cochin and Mattancherry on the southern peninsula, and Vypeen Island north of Fort Cochin, all was linked by ferry but now some islands have bridges. The influence of Chinese, Jews, Arabs and Europeans is
evident in Cochin and its people. The oldest church in India, 500-year-old Portugese houses, old tiled houses built in the Chinese pagoda style, the famous Chinese fishing nets, a Jewish community whose roots go back to the Diaspora, synagogues and mosques all tell the fascinating story of this harbour town. Cochin is an attractive city with serene creak & lagoons overhung with feathery coconut palms and picturesque islands.
Kumarakom is a breathtakingly beautiful paradise having abundant mangroves, coconut groves, lush green paddy fields, gushing waters snaking through the dense forests and the magnificent delicate fluttering blossoms. The popular Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is on the banks of the Vembanad lake house. It is an ornithologist's delight and is the favourite haunt of the migratory birds like the Siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal.
Alleppey (Alappuzha), also known as Venice of The East, is a place of immense natural beauty in Kerala. It attracts several thousands of foreign tourists each year. It is famous for boat races, houseboat holidays, beaches, marine products and coir products. The pier, which extends into the sea here, is over 137 years old. There is also an old lighthouse, which is greatly fascinating to the tourists of Kerala.
Munnar is the one of best known hill stations of India. You can see the scenic attractions of Munnar on Kerala tours with Kerala Backwater. Munnar was the favored summer resort of the erstwhile British rulers in the colonial days. The tea plantations in Munnar are a result of the British government discovering that is was possible to grow tea in the pleasant climate of Munnar. Munnar is situated at an altitude ranging from 1500m to 2695m and has some of the highest tea estates in India.
